Ignited Minds Provides Free Tutoring to Amy Biehl High School Students
Santa Fe, NM- The partnership between Ignited Minds and Amy Biehl High School (ABHS) of Albuquerque begins Tuesday, Feb. 2. Students struggling academically meet each Tuesday and Thursday for online tutoring in a group of 10 or less. Ignited Minds provides free tutoring in all subjects to New Mexican students from seven to 12th grades.
Students at ABHS prepare for college, engage in the community and keep a 75% grade average to receive credit. “Some students get behind and run the great risk of disengagement; they need support beyond the classroom and class hours. Ignited Minds offers excellent resources that can shift students into a growth mindset and facilitate their success,” said Executive Director Stephanie Becker in an interview with Ignited Minds. “Amy Biehl is a public charter high school whose mission centers on graduating college-bound, career-ready, and civic-minded students. We serve a diverse student population who come from over 30 different zip codes.”
Ignited Minds nonprofit includes retired and professional teachers who volunteer their time generously to tutor. Run by a small staff of diverse talent, Ignited Minds advances students’ academic learning by honoring specific needs, processes and styles. In-person tutoring available at school sites after COVID-19 has safely passed.
Ignited Minds partnerships include Chama Independent Valley School District’s Escalante Middle and High School and Childhaven shelter in Farmington. Childhaven provides a safe, temporary crisis shelter while preparing and placing children in nurturing foster care homes. Ignited Minds also tutors self-referred students for private tutoring.
Ignited Minds, Amy Biehl, and Childhaven are currently seeking donations and corporate sponsorship. Ignited Minds needs more board members to champion fundraising.
